How Onyfix can help correct your ingrown toenail
Onyfix is a revolutionary ingrown toenail correction system created by Neubourg Healthcare Inc. It uses a patented putty-like resin to gently retrain your nail growth. Once it is applied, it corrects the corners to restore a more natural and pain-free shape to your nail. Primarily, Onyfix is used on the hallux (big toes) as these nails are more prone to ingrown.
Ingrown toenails are a result of poor nail management, improper cutting technique, fungal infections, pincer or trumpet deformities. All of these conditions can be rectified with proper nail care, in conjunction with the Onyfix system.
In the past, ingrown toenail correction has been painful and expensive. Various implements, spacing devices and theories have been used to retrain or eliminate ingrown toenails. The old adage of “cutting a ‘v’ in the middle of the toenail”, dangerous and painful metal braces, wood and cotton packing have been used in the past.
In modern podiatry, the most accepted method for ingrown correction is to freeze the offending toe, use a scalpel and sterile scissors to cut out the chronically ingrown portion from the nail matrix. Cost is also a huge factor here, approximately $350 per toe, plus consultation fees, time off work, antibiotics, etc.
In some cases, this procedure may still be necessary, and your foot nurse will be able to give you further advice upon assessment. For the majority of the population, such invasive measures are not necessary.
Your foot care nurse has taken extra certification to be able to use, apply, and promote this product.
This pain-free, non-invasive system gently retrains the nail growth from the base of the plate. As the Onyfix grows out, it “pulls out” the corners, thus naturally correcting the nail plate and “curing” the toenail.
